Robert Glasper Experiment's 'Black Radio' Album Release Show

On February 28th, 2012, the Robert Glasper Experiment will release Black Radio (Blue Note Records/EMI), a future landmark album that boldly stakes out new musical territory and transcends any notion of genre, drawing from jazz, hip hop, R&B, and rock, but refusing to be pinned down by any one tag. The first full-length album from the Grammy-nominated keyboardist's electric Experiment band - saxophonist Casey Benjamin, bassist Derrick Hodge, and drummer Chris Dave - Black Radio also features many of Glasper's famous friends from the spectrum of urban music, seamlessly incorporating appearances from a jaw-dropping roll call of special guests including Erykah Badu, Bilal, Lupe Fiasco, Lalah Hathaway, Shafiq Husayn (Sa-Ra), KING, Ledisi, Chrisette Michele, Mos Def, Musiq Soulchild, Meshell Ndegeocello, and Stokley Williams (of Mint Condition).

The Swedes Are Coming

It doesn't seem like too many saw Be Kind Rewind, since every time I talk about it I get blank stares. Well, check that shit out people. One byproduct of this movie are the "Sweded" films, and all the folks contributing to the Swede scene. Yeah, are good chunk of them are complete shit, but oh well, there are some good ones in there too. You can get the idea here. And see all the homemade other shit here. The X-Wing fight scenes here are pretty amazing too.

Its The Mighty Mos Def

Most people recognize Mos Def from his roles in Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, The Italian Job, Spin City, and The Chappelle Show or those Converse shoes he made. What you might not know is that he is a fuckin wicked ass MC. He was in this group called Blackstar, and man, they were so cool.

Alright, stop playin. Mos Def is the shit, and his live performances are the best, hands down. Seeing him perform with Hypnotic Brass Ensemble was honestly mind blowing. Well, coming up June 28th, you get the chance to see him at Carnegie Hall. Part of the JVC Jazz Festival, I'm sure this show will be worth a kidney. And to top it off, he's performing with Gil Scott Heron.
