The Food Life V41 - Denver, CO

Went to Denver awhile back, naturally ate a bunch of food and took pics of it. Below is a little sample. Stuffed mushrooms, steak sandwich, pad thai, supposedly the most amazing burger/beer joint in Denver (forgot the name, but right down the street from the awesome Salvagetti bike/coffee shop), salad and breakfast burrito. I love food - I'm actually eating some right now as I post this.

Street Science - Vol 9: Denver Edition

This spot was redunculous. So many lines, and not a single person riding. Perhaps they respect the architecture or perhaps there are spots nearby even juicier then this. Either way, I wish I had my bicycle on this trip.

Colorado Dreamin

I love a good vista more then anything. That is by far my favorite thing about traveling. When you got a seriously breathtaking view you don't need anything else. These pictures don't do justice to the beauty of Colorado. Last time I was this overwhelmed by a view was in Rio de Janeiro. When I see something like this, I immediately begin to imagine what it was like back before all the towns, roads, steel and concrete got erected all over the damn place. All this messy infrastructure. Imagine yourself with hundreds of miles of journey ahead of you, on foot, and you come to one of these rolling hills and mountains and see exactly where it is you're headed. Take a good look around. Pick a good place to set up camp, somewhere not to windy - last thing you want to do is wrestle with the fire after a straight all day hike. Pack a pipe under 100 billion stars. Ration out your bread and water, it may be days before you can re-up. No one knows you're here. You are at peace.

Salvagetti Bicycle Workshop

This place was a treat. I was walking through Denver, admiring how every single piece of architecture in town looked like it was built yesterday, all the while looking for My Brothers Bar where I was told "best burgers ever" live (they were delicious). This place, Salvagetti Bicycle Workshops, appeared out of nowhere - I had to go inside. I walked up to the front door...1000 damnations! It was a quarter past the closing time! Someone inside must have seen how sad I got through the glass door and let me in for a peek.





Between the logo, the sharp font and a pleasing color palate, it was more then inviting. Fresh style.





They had alot of great bikes on display, I didn't get a chance to take all the photos that I wanted - I felt bad, it was after closing time and I just sort of walked in tourist style as an after work six pack was ready to be cracked.
The place was crispy clean, brand new, with thick coffee aroma throughout. These fellas make a mean cup of java. A great workshop full of tools with a professional coffee station as a bonus. I got to speak with the owner, or at least one of the owners and they told me about their plans to open an early morning bike thru window for coffee! How amazing of an idea is that? What a cool setup.



Seems like the story is the same for most fine bikeshops, if you ride alot you're bound to run into someone there who rode with someone you know. Here, one of the mechanics rode with Anson Yowelli Wellingon, my good homeboy.

I just had to buy something with Salvagetti on it - never too many patch kits! So next time you're in Denver, look these dudes up.

Cold Out

Anyone still biking out there? I'm not talking to you Florida and South of France kids, I'm talking to ya'll NYC, Chicago, Denver cats - its fuckin cold out.
I think I'm finally ready to pick up my first face/ski mask for bike riding so my face doesn't fall off. I already have thermal base layer, its time to protect the dome.
So, winter riders, got any suggestions as to what is the BEST facemask to buy? Leave some ideas in the comments, pleeeze!
