SHOOK GUNS pt.1 : Primer on Glock Sizes

Photobucket

FACT: All handguns are NOT Glocks!
While urban slang contains terms such as Gat, Strap, Heater, Biscuit (etc) that refer to guns generically, Glock is a brand name. You wouldn't refer to every type of car as a Porsche, so don't make yourself sound ignorant by referring to a lesser quality gun (HiPoint, Jennings, Bryco, Jimenez, Raven, etc) as a "Glock".
Designed by Gaston Glock for the Austrian military in the mid 80's, the Glock handgun revolutionized pistol design, spawning scores of imitators (nearly every handgun manufacturer currently makes some type of Glock-like pistol).
The attributes that made the GLock a success include: lightweight polymer frame, high capacity magazine, inexpensive to manufacture, retardedly reliable under adverse conditions, internal safeties making manual safeties obsolete. I will not go into extensive detail about the Glocks in general because it is common knowledge that can be researched thru mainstream sources, like Wikipedia.
The .40cal GLock is the most common police weapon in the United States, with more than 75% off all cops carrying one.

Pictured above are 4 of the 5 different sizes of Glock 9mm handguns. from left to right: Subcompact Model 26 (known as the "baby" glock), Compact 19, Fullsize 17 (the Original Glock model), Practical/Tactical 34. Not pictured is the Longslide 17L, which has a slightly longer barrel than the 34. Generally, each model increases barrel length and grip length by 1/2" increments, although the 17, 34, and 17L have identical grips with varying barrel lengths.
Also note that the model 17 pictured is the 2nd generation frame, before the addition of finger grooves and accessory rail seen on the newer models.

Magazine capacity from left to right is 10, 15, 17 and 17. the beauty of Glock pistols is that mags are interchangeable between different models in the same caliber; therefore the 17rd mag of the model 17 can be used in the subcompact model 26 (with an inch of extra mag hanging out obviously).
The 26 is an ideal gun for concealment, but its abbreviated grip (not long enough to catch the pinky on normal sized hands) can make it trickier to handle for inexperienced shooters. The 19 bridges the gap, allowing a compact size for concealment but enough grip to hold onto like a full-size gun. The 17 is the standard duty-size pistol for Law Enforcement and Military applications. the 34 is slightly longer than the 17, popular with competition shooters ("practical") but also finding favor with SWAT and other Police users ("tactical").

Glocks in the 40s&w caliber are the exact same size as the 9mm models, and are designated as the Models 27, 23, 22, 35, 24 (from the subcompact up to the longslide). the 45acp and 10mm models also mirror each other in size, but are different from the 9mm/40sw versions (stay tuned for this info in future posts).

In the next installment of Shook Guns, we will see a customized Glock that blurs the lines and "cheats" its way inbetween the models 26 and 19 in size.

Hey look, its a cop - everyone say HELLO!

What a nice morning. It's beautiful in NYC today. Not too hot or humid after last nights rains. Not to worry - your ass is about to get served and protected. Guess who runs a stop sign, swerves and abruptly stops in the bike lane without looking, then tells you to "Fuckin watch it" as he's about to door you without even realizing it - NYPD of course, who else. I'm a calm person, for the most part. But shit like this just pisses me off.

Look, I expect gangsta mamis in Nissan Maximas to cut me off as they struggle to hold their cellphones with their shoulder.
I expect fools in tinted out Escalades with overpriced rims to park in bike lanes, as the fix the EQ to zone into "This is why i'm hot (the remix).
Obviously, Bedford-locked curl dangling top hat guys will use any piece of the road as a passing lane as they rush around doing their holy work, bike lane or not.

But NYPD? The fuckin cops who are supposed to enforce safety and peace? What is this? Machiavelli the Prince put into action? If people can't love or respect you, the must fear you? Is this some sort of a crazy competition as to how much shit a cop can get away with before his papa cop tells him to knock it down a tad?

Why would a cop run a red light or a stop sign? Park in a bike lane? Why would a cop give a ticket to someone who's parked in a bike lane if they park there themselves? What are we supposed to do? Are we supposed to kick the cop car as we ride by? Yell at it? Take photos and send it to the mayor or whoever? Write petitions? Set the fuckin police cruisers on fire? Throw rocks at them from a secret location as they drive by? Spit on a cop car then waste your time dealing with a pointless summons? Fuck a police officers stay-at-home wife, dirty - then leave a "Parked my BIKE COCK in your wifes ASS" note, while the pig hubby goes about his daily business along with a lil order of Vietnamese food from the comfort of a nearby bikelane?

What do YOU think?

Beware Of The Beast, For He Is The Devils Pawn...

The Beast is loose on NYC cyclists, so watch yer backs and fronts and sides! (hope they aint doin breathalyzerz......)
Dragnet! Cops nab bikers in red-light sting
By Mike McLaughlin and Emilia Brock
The Brooklyn Paper
It's not the first time that the bike lane on DeKalb Avenue has been in the news.
Police cracked down on rule-breaking bicyclists in Fort Greene and Clinton Hill last Friday, issuing tickets for running red lights and then slapping offenders with additional summonses for minor infractions, including one bicyclist who didn’t have a bell.
The dragnet snared 36 bicyclists on the popular DeKalb Avenue bike lane that links the two neighborhoods with Downtown Brooklyn.
Bikers protested that they’re being prosecuted for victimless crimes
“I admit the red light was a red light,” said Gideon Levy who was busted on DeKalb Avenue near the police precinct building at Classon Avenue. “But when I go through red lights, I always look to see if pedestrians and cars are coming. There should be a similar attitude as with jaywalking. New York can afford to look the other way as long as the bikers are riding safely.”

The red light violation carries a $120 penalty, and this was Levy’s second pedaling punishment this spring.
Back in Fort Greene on Friday, one biker was slapped with $350 in tickets for running a red light on Lafayette Avenue and not properly signaling as he made a turn onto the Carlton Avenue bike lane.
“There have to be rules for bicyclists, but cycling needs to be encouraged,” said the suddenly discouraged Brion Snyder, a music producer from Clinton Hill. “Now I have $350 in fines. It seems irrational since it’s a minor infraction. It’s egregious.”
Cops said the crackdown was long overdue.
“It was targeted towards enforcing traffic laws,” said a police source from the 88th Precinct. “Running a red light is not safe for the cyclist or anyone else in the street.”
The ticket blitz is a bitter irony for bikers who have complained since the lane’s creation last year that vehicles, including officers at the 88th Precinct stationhouse near the corner of Classon Avenue, but especially delivery trucks, regularly block the lane with parked cars along the busy corridor.
Cop sources conceded that the newfound heightened enforcement of the traffic rules came only after motorists and pedestrians mounted complaints about dangerous and illegal maneuvers by their two-wheel loving neighbors.
One driver, himself stopped at a red light in Clinton Hill, said many bikers are a hazard.
“No, they don’t follow the laws,” the driver moaned. “Last week, my car got hit by a bike.”
And with only five motorists getting nailed in last week’s crackdown with citations for obstructing the bikers’ route, word quickly spread among rogue riders that they were under scrutiny — and they quickly heeded the lesson of the suddenly strict enforcement.
“This whole ride I’ve been stopping for red lights,” said Lauren Kelleher, near the corner of Clinton Avenue on Monday afternoon. “My roommate just got a ticket for it!”
But most cyclists act like red lights are stop signs, halting just long enough to see that intersections are clear of traffic.
“I stop, at least a quick stop, just to check,” said Catalina Monsalve.

To Protect And Issue Pain

I guess its a good thing this biker wasn't coming back from his bachelor party in Queens. Then he might have gotten shot up for no reason too.
