My biggest fear when riding on the street is 1. a person opening a car door without checking their mirror - I've had two close calls this past summer and 2. A pedestrian crossing a street without looking both ways. I avoid riding against traffic but even when I'm riding with it, I've almost hit a mother + baby carriage and a pedestrian, both of which didn't even glance at oncoming traffic before they decided to j-walk. My 3rd fear is actually getting hit by a car. Observe the cars passing by in the right lane before the rider hits the man - he swerved into traffic after the fact. If the indecent occurred before the cars passed, he would of been meat.

Pints n Pedals Vol 4: Mission to Red Hook
Went on a little bicycle cruise over the weekend - nothing major - the best kind. This was my view at the meet up spot.
My boy just got a brand new Iro he's thrilled about and was dying to break in. Great bike for the $.
There are always weddings at this spot in Dumbo, but this was kind of a weird. We presumed they were filming some kind of a reality show or perhaps those people wanted to cover the special moment from 12 different angles, with sound. Who knows.
Proud new owner.
This is why I love Brooklyn. We came across a festival of life in Red Hook and these Mexicans were cooking up some delicious stuff. Real authentic goodness. I mean, AMAZING. This was the real deal shmeal. Always a good pitstop.

Bronx to Brooklyn
After a three month winter exile, I finally went out for a ride today. 231st down to chambers st along the Hudson river, then into Brooklyn via the Brooklyn Bridge and back to Manhattan via the Willie B. The odometer read a total of 23 miles - not bad, and my legs aint complaining either.

Get that Exacto knife and Glue ready

Michael Johansson is the man behind this amazing piece and I love it on many different levels. When I first spotted this on Prolly I immediately thought to myself - YES! FINALLY a plastic bike model kit! I love these things! I wonder what other bikes there are in the series..........DAMN :(
This this is a 1:1 scale installation. Amazing, but unfortunately not plastic to cut out and glue together. Upon closer inspection, it's a real disassembled bike. Doesn't make this any less awesome, but deep down it was a bit of a let down for me. Regardless, if you enjoy this even a 1/10 of how much I did, you just might pee your pants. I did.
"As a child I was fascinated building models. I remember breaking off the pieces from the surrounding plastic sticks that were leftover from the casting process and subsequently gluing the pieces back together in the right order by following the instruction manual.
A real bike is turned back into a space of imagination. By this I wanted to address the similarities between different contexts and spin concepts such as size and belonging."

Banks Gathering this Saturday
Come Thru to the Brooklyn Banks this Saturday, Jan 23rd, 1PM, For an "impromptu" bike/skate gathering. The spot is already overdue for its four year closure - this might be one gathering you don't wanna miss. I've read that Fuel TV will also be there filming a piece, as will I. Its being organized by Steve Rodriguez/5boro, but I'm not sure of the purpose of this gathering in relation to the imminent demise the banks are facing. either way, come out, weather permitting, and bring your bike.
[UPDATE] seems this gathering is meant to bring attention to/save the banks from the city's plan to close off large sections to accommodate the brooklyn bridge restoration.
