PS3 and Netflix - Its On
Its officially on - PS3 can now stream Netflix directly - no need to hook up your big screen to the compy any longer. Go to Netflix so they send you a free install disc of some sort to get things popping. Now you just gotta figure out what method you want to use to get some cinema into your system. A PS3 that is equal to running like 3 full size refrigerators or PC that is more like half a fridge. Hmmm - I'd say PS3 cuz that way you don't even have to peel yourself off the couch to get a movie going and you get 1,500 coolness points for using the newest tech available.

sweet. I dont get the fridge analogy, are you saying PS3 uses a lot of power?
ps3 uses as much power as 3 to 5 full size refrigerators - its a fact.
even keeping the ps3 plugged in, yet turned off, uses a ton. its one expensive yet awesome little machine.
xbox360 uses even more.
its only 200 watts at peak power.
my PC eats 450 on average.
hmm. i duno. perhaps i'm misinformed and in this age of terrorism maybe i'm just scurred.
i mean, my whole house is basicaly a stockpile of ducttape and drinking water.
Fridges usually use only a few watts, when they condense - 800+
PS3 seems to steady use 380w - big deal, really inefficient.
I have to remember to shut shit off.
Mind you, MY PC on full blast (my desktop) is 400w MAX, probably uses abotu 110w on average when in use!
My server is 900w PSU, and when its going, Im pretty sure its using most of that. 4 Server VM's and a couple of WS's --- nothing crazy, but still - all on shared HW.
i'd like to stream netflix to a ps3... and its an excuse to get a modern gaming console. what is the real deal on power usage? i'm so fucking green that the geico lizard is on my dick. maybe i can trade carbon offsets with some Scrabble players?
i was actually kidding about PS3 using a shit ton of energy - infact, it PRODUCES energy! you can plug your frige INTO you ps3. yay!
:)
but you DO need a ps3, so you can enter the cool kid club.
Ill tell ya all this:
I had Netflix on TV by vurtue of a media center PC (Win 7) - and the Silverlight BS is stil a huge issue - looks like blocky crap on my 11" laptop, unusable on the 46.
PS3 - not microsoft - no silverlight -- SOOOOOO much better.
NF keeps trying to put it on users/connections as if the problem is there. Funny how presilverlight I had great vid, I can stream 720p from Hulu, 1080p from elsewhere, get a minimum 6mbps throughput never choked but it must be my connection.
Die Silverlight, Die.
