The Food Life: Vol 31

Schoog (schoooog).

Mid-Eastern style "make-dull-food-taste-better" salsa. Its like putting thermite in your mouth without the death part. It works great with everything you put it on or mix in.

Materials:
hot peppers

cilantro

garlic

ha-wa-eeegg – mix of pepper, cardamom, cumin, coriander seeds, and cloves.

sweet peppers – sautéed to remove bitterness

combine

add salt/haweeg

mix and done!

One of my favorite tricks is making ketchup, African-style. Super easy. Purée tomatoes and white onions. A touch of sea salt to taste. Done. The sweetness of the onion counterbalances the acidity of the tomato. No high fructose corn syrup necessary!
